Suella Braverman has expressed her support for armed officers who voluntarily surrendered their firearms in the wake of a colleague’s arrest in connection with the tragic death of Chris Kaba. The Home Secretary has initiated a comprehensive review aimed at bolstering their confidence in carrying out their duties while safeguarding the public.
Within the Metropolitan Police, an increasing number of specialized firearm officers have chosen to temporarily withdraw from active duty following the prosecution of an unnamed police marksman implicated in the tragic killing of 24-year-old Chris Kaba.
The incident occurred when Kaba was fatally shot in the head while behind the wheel of a vehicle in Streatham Hill, located in South London, in September 2022. The officer facing charges related to this tragic incident, identified only as NX121, made an appearance at Westminster Magistrates’ Court on Thursday.
